What salary can a content writer expect?
In India, roughly 3–8 LPA at mid-level in-house and 10–20 LPA for senior content or SEO leads; freelance rates run ₹2–8 per word depending on subject expertise. The US band is about $50,000–$85,000, the UK £26,000–£45,000. Technical and financial subjects pay well above general content.
Has AI ended content writing as a career?
It has ended one kind of it. Generic listicles and thin SEO filler are now produced at zero marginal cost and are penalised by search engines anyway. What has become more valuable is writing that requires real expertise, original interviews or first-hand experience — the things a model cannot manufacture.
Do I need SEO knowledge?
For most in-house roles, yes, and it is the fastest thing to learn on this list. Understanding search intent — that 'best crm' wants a comparison and 'what is crm' wants a definition — matters more than keyword tooling, and it is what separates a writer from a content strategist in salary terms.
