What salary can a data scientist expect?
In India, roughly 8–15 LPA early and 20–35 LPA at senior level in product companies; services firms pay materially less for the same title. The US band runs about $100,000–$160,000 mid-level, the UK £45,000–£75,000. The step change comes when a model you built is what a decision runs on, rather than a notebook nobody deployed.
What is the difference between a data scientist and a data analyst?
An analyst explains what happened; a scientist builds something that predicts or decides. Many companies use the titles interchangeably and treat 'scientist' as the senior band. The line that matters in hiring is whether you can take a model to production in Python, or stop at SQL and a dashboard.
Do I need a master's or a PhD?
For most product roles, no. A postgraduate degree helps for research positions and for some visa routes, and does very little in a first-round screen if your code is weak. What gets you shortlisted is two or three projects where you can state the metric, the baseline you beat, and what you would do differently.
