What salary can a database administrator expect?
In India, roughly 6–14 LPA at mid-level and 18–35 LPA senior, with Oracle and large-scale production experience at the top. The US band is about $85,000–$130,000, the UK £40,000–£70,000. On-call responsibility is usually what explains the gap between two otherwise similar offers.
Is the DBA role disappearing into cloud managed services?
The routine half is — patching, backups and failover are handled by the provider now. What has not gone away is query performance, schema design, capacity and the incident at two in the morning. The title increasingly appears as database reliability or data platform engineer, and it pays better under those names.
What do interviews actually test?
Performance diagnosis, more than administration. Expect to explain why a query got slow, how you would read an execution plan, what an index costs on writes, and how you would restore to a point in time. Being able to talk through a real outage you handled is worth more than any product knowledge.
