In India, roughly 5–10 LPA early and 12–25 LPA at mid to senior level in product companies. The US band is about $90,000–$150,000 mid-level, the UK £35,000–£60,000. The jump to senior comes from owning architecture and performance, not from writing more components.
Do I need vanilla JavaScript, or is React enough?
React alone will get you a first job and then quietly cap you. Understanding what sits underneath — the event loop, closures, how the DOM actually updates — is what you need when something breaks in a way the framework docs do not cover, and it makes the next framework a fortnight rather than a restart.
Is frontend work turning into design work?
No. Designers set direction; you build the thing that ships. What changed is the bar: accessibility, Core Web Vitals and bundle size are part of the job now rather than someone else's problem. That is more engineering, not less.
