📊 Accounting & CA
Move from qualification to employable finance professional.
The qualification proves you can pass exams. What gets you hired is evidence you can close a month, reconcile a messy ledger and explain a variance to someone who is not an accountant.
The path, in order
Where people lose months
- ⚠Treating Excel as a side skill. At entry level it is frequently the deciding differentiator, and 'proficient in Excel' on a CV means nothing without lookups, pivots and a model you can actually walk through.
- ⚠Memorising standards without the mechanics. Being able to quote a standard but not post the entry it governs is exactly the gap interviewers probe for.
- ⚠Waiting for the final qualification. Article-ship and part-qualified roles exist precisely so you can build experience alongside the exams; delaying applications until you are fully qualified costs years of seniority.
Common questions
Is CA worth it compared with an MBA or CFA?
They serve different ends. CA is the deepest route into audit, tax and controllership, particularly in India. CFA points at investment and markets. An MBA is a general management pivot. Choose by the job you want rather than by prestige.
Can I get a finance job while still studying?
Yes — article-ship, accounts assistant and AP/AR roles all hire part-qualified candidates, and that experience compounds while you finish the exams.
How much Excel is enough?
You should be able to take a raw transaction export and produce a summarised, reconciled view with lookups and a pivot table, without help, in under an hour. That is the practical bar.
