How do I move into product management without PM experience?
The reliable route is sideways, from a role that already touches the product — engineering, analytics, support or sales. Ship one thing end to end with a measurable outcome, then apply internally first. External PM roles rarely take a cold career changer; internal transfers happen constantly.
What does a product manager actually get measured on?
Outcomes rather than output. Shipping features is the visible part; the assessed part is whether a metric somebody cares about moved. In interviews the difference between a strong and a weak candidate is usually whether they name the metric and say what it did.
Is an MBA required for product management?
No. It helps in enterprise and finance-adjacent products, and in some markets it opens doors faster, but in tech the hiring signal is a product you shaped and can reason about under pressure.
