What salary can a QA engineer expect?
In India, roughly 6–12 LPA at mid-level and 18–30 LPA senior, with automation roles at the top of both bands and manual-only well below. The US band is about $65,000–$100,000 mid-level, the UK £30,000–£50,000. Moving from manual-only to automation is the largest single raise most testers get.
Is manual testing still worth doing?
On its own it is a shrinking market with a low ceiling. Exploratory testing and a real sense of where a product breaks stay valuable, but as something you pair with automation rather than use instead of it. If you are manual-only today, that is the gap to close first.
Should I focus on automation or on test strategy?
Automation gets you in; strategy gets you promoted. People who only maintain a framework plateau. The ones who decide what is worth testing, where the risk actually sits, and what the team should stop testing move into lead roles.
