In India, roughly 6–12 LPA in agency and 8–15 LPA in-house. The US runs about $50,000–$85,000 base in-house, with agency far more variable because it is commission-led. The UK is £28,000–£50,000 in-house. Agency has the higher ceiling and the higher variance.
Agency or in-house recruiting?
Agency teaches speed, negotiation and closing under pressure, and burns people out on volume. In-house is slower, more political, and you live with your hires afterwards. A common path is two to four years in agency and then a move in-house, which is easier than the reverse.
Can I move into recruiting from HR or operations?
Yes, though the cadence is the shock. Recruiting runs on weekly closes and monthly targets rather than annual cycles, and you are rejected constantly by candidates and hiring managers alike. Operations backgrounds tend to adapt fastest, because the coordination load is already familiar.
