What does a sales representative actually earn?
Ask for base and OTE separately, because the advertised figure is usually OTE. In India, base is often 4–8 LPA with total earnings 8–18 LPA against quota. The US runs roughly $40,000–$65,000 base against $65,000–$130,000 OTE; the UK £20,000–£35,000 base. OTE assumes you hit target, and not everyone does.
Can I get into sales with no sales experience?
Yes, more easily than into most technical roles. Tech and SaaS hire for coachability and tolerance of rejection and will teach you the process. What you have to show is that you can hold a conversation with a stranger about their problem without reading from a script.
What should I ask before accepting a sales job?
The quota in currency, the ramp period before it applies, whether the territory is new or inherited, and what share of the team hit target last year. If nobody will answer that last one directly, that is the answer. Ask a rep who left, not the recruiter.
