Working as a systems analyst in San Diego
Biotech, defence and wireless, with a distinct research flavour and a smaller pure-software market than the Bay Area. Pay is below San Francisco and housing is expensive enough that the gap narrows considerably.
Most of the hiring in this list clusters around Sorrento Valley, UTC and downtown. Location on a posting is not always literal — check whether a role is genuinely on site, and whether "remote" means remote within the country or remote from anywhere, because the two are priced differently.

Systems Analyst pay and hiring, asked properly
What salary can a systems analyst expect?
In India, roughly 6–13 LPA at mid-level and 15–28 LPA senior; the title spans a wide range of seniority, so the band is unusually broad. The US band is about $70,000–$105,000, the UK £35,000–£60,000. Analysts who can write SQL and read logs sit at the upper end.
How does this differ from a business analyst?
A business analyst faces the business and asks what problem needs solving; a systems analyst faces the system and asks how it currently behaves and what changing it would break. In smaller organisations one person does both, and job titles are used interchangeably — read the responsibilities, not the heading.
Is it a route into engineering?
It is one of the more reliable ones, because you already know the systems and the domain. The gap to close is building rather than specifying. Analysts who move across usually do it by automating something themselves first, then applying internally where their domain knowledge is already valued.
