What salary can a business analyst expect?
In India, roughly 7–15 LPA at mid-level in product companies and 18–35 LPA senior; consulting and services run lower for the same title. The US band is about $70,000–$110,000, the UK £35,000–£55,000. Pay follows ownership: documenting requirements pays less than owning whether the thing worked.
Do I need SQL, or is Excel enough?
Excel is assumed. SQL is what separates two otherwise identical candidates, and you need less of it than you fear — joins, grouping, filtering, and the confidence to answer the follow-up question without going back to someone else.
Is a business analyst role technical?
It varies by company, and that variation sets your ceiling. Where the job means writing specifications, it caps early. Where it means querying the data, arguing with engineering about feasibility and being trusted on numbers, it is a route into product. Ask which one you are interviewing for.
