Before you apply

Application volume is the defining feature of this market. LinkedIn has been reported to process around 11,000 job applications per minute — roughly a 45% year-on-year rise — and recruiters describe receiving 300–500 applications on a popular role within three days. The practical consequence is that being a plausible candidate is no longer enough; you need to be an obvious one for the specific posting.

Two checks are worth doing before every application. First, the knockouts — work authorisation, years of experience, location and on-site expectations are filterable fields, and failing one ends the application regardless of how strong the rest is. Second, keyword coverage: make sure every skill you genuinely have that the posting names appears in your resume in the posting's own words. That is coverage, not density, and it never means adding skills you don't have. The widely-repeated claim that ATS software auto-rejects 75% of resumes is a myth traceable to a 2012 sales pitch — what actually filters you is those knockout fields plus a recruiter's six-to-eight-second scan, as our ATS guide explains with sources.

Digital Marketing interview questions you should be ready for

These are questions that recur in digital marketing interviews, with the structure of a strong answer. They're from our own question bank — not scraped from review sites.

How would you design an A/B test? Case
  1. State one hypothesis and a single primary metric before you start.
  2. Compute the sample size from baseline rate, minimum detectable effect, power and significance.
  3. Randomise at the right unit (usually user) and check the split is balanced.
  4. Run for whole business cycles — don't peek and stop early.
  5. Analyse the primary metric, check guardrails, and report the effect size with a confidence interval.

Watch out: Peeking daily and stopping at the first significant result — that inflates false positives.

At senior level: Discuss novelty effects, network interference, CUPED and sequential testing.

How would you improve a landing page's conversion rate? Case
  1. Look at the data first: where in the funnel do people drop?
  2. Check message match between the ad and the page headline.
  3. Clarify the value proposition and make one primary call to action.
  4. Cut friction: fewer form fields, faster load, mobile-first.
  5. Test one change at a time with enough traffic to be conclusive.

Watch out: Listing 'best practices' with no measurement plan.

At senior level: Prioritise tests by expected value and tie results to CAC/LTV.

Explain CAC and LTV and how you'd use them. Conceptual
  1. CAC: total sales and marketing spend divided by customers acquired in that period.
  2. LTV: gross margin per customer times expected lifetime.
  3. Healthy businesses target roughly LTV:CAC of 3:1 or better.
  4. Also track payback period — how many months to recover CAC.
  5. Segment by channel; a blended average hides losing channels.

Watch out: Using revenue instead of gross margin in LTV, which flatters the ratio.

At senior level: Discuss cohort-based LTV and channel saturation as spend scales.

How would you structure a paid acquisition campaign from scratch? Case
  1. Define the objective and the one conversion event that matters.
  2. Segment campaigns by intent and audience so budgets don't cannibalise.
  3. Build creative variants per segment with a clear hypothesis each.
  4. Set up conversion tracking BEFORE launch — untracked spend is wasted.
  5. Start small, kill losers fast, scale winners gradually.

Watch out: Launching before conversion tracking is verified.

At senior level: Discuss incrementality testing versus platform-reported conversions.

Explain marketing attribution and its limitations. Conceptual
  1. Attribution assigns credit for a conversion across touchpoints.
  2. Last-click is simple but over-credits the final channel.
  3. Multi-touch models spread credit but assume you can see every touch.
  4. Privacy changes and cross-device gaps break tracking assumptions.
  5. Use incrementality tests (geo holdouts) as the ground truth.

Watch out: Treating platform-reported conversions as truth — every platform claims the same sale.

At senior level: Design a media-mix model or holdout programme for real causal reads.

What is SEO and how would you improve organic traffic? Conceptual
  1. Fix technical basics first: crawlability, indexation, site speed, mobile.
  2. Research keywords by intent and realistic difficulty, not just volume.
  3. Build genuinely useful content that answers the query better than page one does.
  4. Earn links through content worth citing.
  5. Measure by rankings, impressions and — most importantly — conversions.

Watch out: Chasing high-volume head terms you have no chance of ranking for.

At senior level: Discuss topical authority, cannibalisation audits and content pruning.
